Rudi Kröll - Ästhetiker Wängl Tängl
Published on March 27, 2007. 16:30
5* TTR Event
Last weekend the Wängl Tängl 07 took place in my home resort Mayrhofen. The park up on the Penken was in perfect shape and I have not seen a park like this somewhere else this season! The Ästhetiker and the Burton Park Mayrhofen guys did a perfect job! I also helped them shaping the park on Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday afternoon the training took place and all the guys checked out the park for the contest.
On Friday was the qualification with about 50 pre-qualified or invited riders. We had sunshine on Friday although the weather forecast predicted bad weather and snowfall. The system was that every rider had 3 runs, 2 got judged and you had to do at least 2 different lines. Like a kicker line and an alternative line (rails, cradles, …) . I got 7th in the qualification on Friday. I did a kicker line with cab9, bs7,fs7 and a nice alternative line. So I was stoked about that and we had a really nice party that night.
Because of bad weather forecast the semi-finals and finals got postponed from Saturday to Sunday. Perfect decision because we had really nice weather on Sunday again! 30 riders were fighting on an amazing setup to take part in the Final. The riding level was really high. No wonder that the Ästhetiker Wängl Tängl got promoted from a 4 Star to a 5 Star TTR event this season.
Everyone had 4 runs, you had to do 2 different lines and the best 2 runs counted. I did two kicker runs with cab9 to bs rodeo 7 to fs7 tail and fs9 to sw bs 5 to bs 1. And I did two nice alternative lines. As I was pretty unlucky in some of the judge’s decision this season I also was pretty unlucky in the judging decision on the semi-finals. They took 12 guys into the Superfinal and guess what: I got 13th.
As it really is a very high riding level it’s not a bad result. But for me as it is my local contest and it was one of my season goals to be in the final of the Ästhetiker Wängl Tängl I was really disappointed that moment. But that’s life.
Anyway it was a really nice contest in my home resort and I am happy that I could take part in it!
Yesterday I already was filming again and after a day off today I go to Andorra tomorrow! There is a 3 Star TTR Contest called ”Grandvalira Total Fight” which I will take part in. I’m looking forward for that! I have never been in Andorra before.
So I send u greets from the “Looking like summer again” Chillertal
Rudi

The Elk @ Orage Open
Published on March 26, 2007. 19:02
The Nike ACG team had a big crew out at the Orage this year with Italian, British, Norweigen, French, Spanish, German Swiss and Austrian team riders. The event itself was very professional, well run and despite the weather which was not perfect, the event went off without a hitch. The crew at Laax really know how to do their job.
It was a bit of a bad start to the event with Roy Kittler doing his collarbone again in qualies and having to bail home to sort it out. Dude, take a rest now and get that thing better before coming back next time!!!
The slopestyle course was a challenge for everyone cause speed was hard to come by due to the snow falling etc. But Rich, Martin and Mirjam did their best in the semis unfortunatley not making it through to the finals.
In the womens pipe final, Kimmy Misof (4th) went bigger than anyone busting massive airs all the way down the pipe. She's only small too. Who knows where she gets that amplitude from but it was pretty amazing to watch. Everyone in the crowd were buzzing. But it was Mirjam Jaeger with all the tech that ended up placing third and winning a massive US$400 (come on Orage, whats with the womens prize money!!!) behind the UK's Emma Lonsdale and of course in first Grete Eliassen who was simply too good.![]()
In the mens pipe, Murray Buchan, our youngest rider at the event showed almost everyone up making it through to the semis where he put down two super solid runs signaling to everyone there that not only can the Brits can ride but that he will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. Murray has also grown a tash so that he looks older and will be taken more seriously on the scene. It's one of those really good ones that you can twist at each end. Check the photo....its true...no really!!![]()
Making it through to the mens final for Nike ACG was Norways Olav Brusletto who despite busting a binding after a pretty hard slam in his final training run (how's the nads Olav?), managed to keep it together for a 9th finish overall. Well done dude and nice to meet you...although i don't know what that milky stuff you were drinking at the party was....you gotta sort that out!
The final winner of the mens pipe was Josse Wells from NZ. This kid was so smooth and stylie and deserved the result despite the protests of Simon Dumont who put a solid 12 in his final run but was just a bit sketchy overall.
Speaking of parties, the Orage party scene was pretty quiet until Saturday night when it went off. Champagne was the order of the night to celebrate Mirjams 3rd and a belated celebration for Paddys clean-up the week before at the Brits where he won the pipe and ss.
![]()
Well done to all the Nike ACG riders. Thanks also to Lionel from Giro who was driving me around in the sweetest ride at the Open....everyone wanted to be in that car dude...i was so proud!
For all the results, get to the Orage webite...can't remember it but just google Orage Open 2007 and you get there.

Rudi Kröll - Subject Schlern
Published on March 25, 2007. 21:35
On Saturday evening I drove down to Kastelruth in South Tyrol where Magdalena and Alex from the Fakie Shop organized a room for me. After I got there I went to the Sauna to relax and get ready for the party. It took place in a Tennis hall and they had a very funny band. About 5 or 6 Italian guys all dressed in Lincoln Style, top-hatted with full beard assisted by 4 sexy Italian girls which were half naked most of the time.
I went there for the contest on Sunday which is called “Subject Schlern 5” and done by the Fakie Shop located in Merano. The guy who owns it is called Alex.
The contest works in a very funny way. Each rider got 5 runs. First run 180, second 360, third 540 and so on till the 900. The best 180 got 180 € , the best 360 got 360 € and so on till the best 900 which was announced for 900 €. About 30 riders were styling the two jumps for money.
They have a really nice park there. The weather was perfect on Sunday and the training & session very relaxed.
I won two categories. The best 360 with a FS 360 stalefish and the best 900 with a Cab 900 melon. Sickkkk!
Results:
Best 180°: Joonas Mustonen (FIN)
BS Double Tailgrab
Best 360°: Rudi Kröll (A)
FS Stalefish
Best 540°: Joonas Mustonen
Switch BS Tailgrab
Best 720°: Simon Gruber (I)
FS Nosegrab
Best 900°: Rudi Kröll
Cab melon
I wanna for sure go there again next year.

Canada

Day 1:
Hey everyone.
I am now in Canada at a secret location trying to get some pow this year with Flo. We didn’t get our bags and the weather-gods hasn’t been too nice to us. It’s been raining and now it’s cold with 7 cm snow on top. Everything looks very good, but the view lies. We are a little frustrated, but we have an amazing crew that knows the mountain, so we will get something done…I hope.

No homobiling
Day 2:
Today has been one of the best days of my life. We went up pretty early and I hiked up to a top when Flo hit a jump he built the day before. He landed some tricks and then I did my line. I fell, but it was a good experience. Then I hit the jump and Flo hiked up to another line. He lost his board (haha) and we both went up and did a line. Then we looked for a location to build a jump. Nothing really perfect, but we did some close up powder turns and got to know the mountain. Now I’m so tired and we are waiting for the dinner to get ready. If every day is like this, the winter only have to be one week to make a video-part.

Day 3:
It's dumping. It's 10.30 and we are going up to see if we can find something in the trees. The light is not good, but we will try.
Back from the hill. It was amazing. I never had pow in Japan, but I guess this was pretty close. It was snowing so hard that the cameras stopped working. I hope they are ok. The rest of the day we were just shredding the forest.
Perfect day.

Day 4:
Today it is raining. We could not go up because of avalanche-danger, so we did some jibs, went skating and watched some surf-movies. I was an ok day and I think we needed a day of. But we are getting shots every day and with only one day with some sun and the snow not cooperating well, we are doing very good. You can not fight nature, so we are crossing our fingers and hoping for better days.

Day 5:
The skate-session was sick. Today we had wet sticky snow, some showers and a little bit of sun. It was almost impossible to ride the “fresh” snow and so slow, but we manage to build a corner-jump and landed some tricks. The only reason it worked was because the landing was higher than the takeoff and we didn’t have any speed when we landed. Our bags are still not here and now British-Airways don’t even know where they are. Sh** happens, but it’s the 5th time this year. We just have to hope for sun and that it’s still pow in the high alpine.

Filmers (Boris and Juel) and ACG's Flo
We got a little bit of riding before we left for comp in Austria where I got injured. S*** happens. I'll be back in a week or so.

winter is back
Published on March 22, 2007. 23:40
Hi guys!!
Last days were some of the best this winter.
I did some shots with Klaus Polzer from Skiing (the next Level) mag.
And some pics with Marco Toniolo.
After this I went to Flaine for the Nissan Freeride Quest, which is the last qualifier for Verbier. I did a really nice line, but I crashed at the last cliff. Damn!
The same happened to Flo Köfer.
So Sverre took one of the last Tickets to Verbier, so hopefully he will kick their asses.
Good luck, Buddy!!!!
Back in Austria Flo and I did the BM final in Fieberbrunn, I took the 5th place, Flo took the 1st place in the category: craziest highest cliff drop!!!! Dude ?!?!
It was an cool event, sponsored by ACG.
Big THX to Andi Reutner (ACG Aut) for the VIP card´s for the after contest party!!!!
And don´t look to much at the young girls :) ok sorry that was me!!! But I´m young too
Yeah, but anyway - Andi you rock!!!!!
(I don´t know if Flo is still there at the disco to dance with his Prowhores :) :)
Today I was up on the mountain to check out how much snow we got. And we got about 100cm and more, but the problem is, there is no fucking base, so hopefully our plan to make a sweet spot next week will work!!!!!!
Ok, guys nice powder days and go safe! Rock on,
Cheers roman

ACG UK crew rock the Brits
Published on March 18, 2007. 20:20
![]()
UK team riders Paddy Graham, Murray Buchan and Angus Leith have taken the Brits by storm.
Held last week in sunny Laax the Brits is a 3* TTR event (for the snowboarders) and a top-class line up of UK skiing talent. Not to mention a proper late season bash for everyone...
The ski events were officially 'owned' by the Paddy and Murray show. First up on Monday was the pipe comp, savaged by the pair. Padds dropped into every run with insane amounts of flair not to mention a fair bit of showmanship. Defending his title in his 'hometown' pipe he was not to be outgunned and lived up to his billing as clear favourite by throwing down some epic 9s and a whole range of 7s, sw 5s and even a couple of leg spreads in amongst some spins. Cheeky.
Padds had company on the podium though in the shape of Murray. Muz has seen as much time on snow this season as he and his Dad have been able to blag off his School and it’s clearly paid off. He was blasting out of the pipe and showing a range of technical tricks that drew massive props from everyone in attendance. His 2nd place was well deserved and at 15 years old he’s got a lot more to look forward to.
There was no let-up for the lads though with the Slopestyle starting early doors on Tuesday. It was another good day in the office for Padds who laid down some mental variations on the rails before stomping switch and regular 9s off the kickers. It was a class display and enough to bring home his second title in 2 days. Standing next to him on the podium later that night was a new face to the UK ski scene... Marco Eydallin, under the stewardship of Rita was laying down sw 10s and pushing Padds hard all the way. Marco’s English Mum makes him eligible for UK comps and meant another Nike ACG clean sweep.
Wednesday was SkiX day and pipe for the snowboarders. With Dan in Stoneham for the World Cup finals Angus was left to lead the ACG charge in the Laax super-pipe. He didn’t disappoint. Angus’ performance in the pipe 12 months ago was a real milestone for how far he’d come after a season with the GB team and another season on, he looked every bit the pipe master. Busting some huge airs and super polished 7s (fully corked) he managed some super styled and technical runs to be crowned champion. By tradition the Brits pipe has always been the most fiercely contested comp of the week (underlined by the fact that the TTR award 3* status to the pipe and the Slopestyle & Big Air forge a combined score) and Angus duly banked his 550 points and was off the radar for a good 24 hours. Next time ring your Mum big man so she doesn’t worry about you!
Thursday meant hangovers for one particular rider and the final day of competition for the rest. Padds and Muz were again amongst the front runners for the skir Big Air title. Padds was gunning for the full complement of freestyle ski titles but it wasn’t to be. Having qualified 1st for the finals he was narrowly (and I’ve seen the video and it must have come down to personal hygiene on the day) denied at the last. His sw 10s looked tight enough to show off in a Borat swimming costume (go see the film). However, breathing down his neck again was Muz who had his own sw 10s on show- not bad for a wee 15 yr old who doesn’t see much snow… It was 2nd and 3rd for the guys this time round.![]()
Before I round up this report I should also mention Muz’’s surrogate sister for the week- Rebecca Cullum. Becky managed to step on the youth podium 4 times over the course of the Brits (SBX champ, 2nd in pipe and Big Air & 3rd in Slopestyle) and did superbly well. Still only 16 (and dodging school) she mixed it up with the senior girls across all disciplines and can be super proud of what she achieved. Well done to all the gang. More photos (from the actual comps) to follow soon I promise- with a bit of luck I’ll get hold of some before they go up on the Brits website…

Tahoe shoot went well and we were lucky with the snowstorm and the weather.
We got some really cool pictures with Espen Lystad. He´s an amazing photographer.
Now I came to Japan with rasmus the Filmer, Taylor the photographer and with my Head team mate Fredrik Evensen. It´s been nice here. First it was snowing again like in Tahoe and then we got an amazing powder day here at Niigata on the main Island. Yesterday we went to do some catboarding and it was super cool even thought the snow was already pretty baked. But that place was sick. It´s an old big skiresort that went to bankruptcy and is all empty with four big hotels and everything. Sony owns it and we were able to get some cat action there now. Anyway what a great place. Today we are having a day off after riding everyday in Tahoe and here, since it is bad weather now. It is really warm now so I hope it is getting colder so we could get some powder turns again.
I love visiting Japan. people are polite and nice, they eat healthy food and you can not see any fat people here. Such an crazy cultural change from the States where I flew here from. It is kind of hard with the language but luckily we have this guy Tetsu from the Japanese Head office to take us around and to translate everything.
Tojo? is supposed to mean what´s up and Arigato is thank´s. Then just bow to the people you are talking to and you´re fine.
Still 12 days to go. From saturday to sunday we are supposed to stay one night in Tokyo, looking forward to check out the city.
Arigato de saimaaaaaaaaaas,
Jukka

Rudi Kröll - Austrain Slopstyle Vice Master
Published on March 12, 2007. 19:55
From the 9th to the 11th of March the Austrian Masters took place in Kühtai near Innsbruck. It’s a 3 Star TTR contest. They had a double kicker combo plus a corner. The landings were not really steep but it worked out.
On Friday I won the Qualification with a cab 9 to fs 7 and cab 7 to sw bs 7 line.
http://www.powdern.com/qualifizierte.pdf
The final got postponed from Saturday to Sunday due to bad weather. So we had bluebird again on Sunday. We had a 2 hour Jam Session and everyone did about 4 or 5 runs.
The total of the two best lines counted. I did cab9 to fs9 and cab7 to sw bs 7.
I got 2nd and therewith Austrian Slopestyle Vice-Master.
I don’t have some pics yet but check out the links! I hope they put some on there.
